Chief Pinesi Day
July 1 @ 9:00 am - 3:00 pm
Chief Pinesi Day is held annually on July 1 in New Edinburgh park to celebrate the Algonquin Anishinaabe history of the area. It is an opportunity for learning and reconciliation.
The event is led by the Algonquins of Pikwakanagan First Nation and begins with a sacred fire at 9 am, followed by a land tour beginning at 10:00. There will also be drumming, dancing and singing.
Chief Pinesi Day is organized by the Kichi Sibi Trails group in partnership with the New Edinburgh Community Alliance (NECA) and the Crichton Community Council. Funding for this year’s event came from the City of Ottawa and NECA.
