Garden Day & Plant Sale (CCC)

May 13, 2023 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm

The Crichton Community Council in New Edinburgh invite you to the New Edinburgh Garden Sale on Saturday May 13th, 2023 from 9:00 AM – 1:00 PM at New Edinburgh Park at 203 Stanley Avenue, Ottawa.

For more than 20 years New Edinburgh residents have purchased their plants on the Fieldhouse’s front lawn the Saturday before Mother’s Day.  This spring the event is evolving to feature a speaker series on the lawn of the Fieldhouse:

9:00 AM – Mélanie Ouellette from the Ottawa Wildflower Seed Library promoting the local native seed ‘library’ exchange program

9:30 AM – Tina Liu, Landscape Architect and head of the NCC Floral Program on edible/productive gardening

10:30 AM – Sarah Coulber with the Canadian Wildlife Federation on the importance of pollinator gardens (mailto:Federationsarahc@cwf-fcf.org)

11:30AM – Brian Holley, horticulturalist, from the Canadensis Botanical Garden (previously at RBG, Cleveland and Naples Florida Botanical Gardens) providing expert gardening advice in a Question and Answer format.  Bring your questions!

Various Community Groups will be staffing information tables, including:

Nora Lee with Wild Pollinators that provides education and resources to support and coordinate pollinator gardens

Social Harvest that runs an urban farm out of Rideau High School contributing to the  Good Box Food Program out of Rideau-Rockcliffe Community Resource Centre.

Ferme Lève-Tot will be selling edible plants for your gardens and answering questions about Community Supported Agriculture.

The Crichton Community Council will be selling a limited number of unique hanging baskets and planters from Les Serres Oli-Ève.

The CCC will be recruiting kids to help rejuvenate the park’s flower bed by planting new native plants.  We will also be planting vines at the base of the walls of the concrete storage shed.  A few holes need to be dug for new trees to be planted in the park.  Bring your kids, some small shovels and gloves!

Enjoy the event by savouring world-renown (or at least should be) treats and coffee brought to you by New Edinburgh’s own Union Street Café

Return to the Fieldhouse later on in the day to watch a film classic, “Little Shop of Horrors”, featuring a giant plant who demands to be fed.

Hope to see you there!
