In response to the intense interest in the Beechwood-MacKay redevelopment project on the part of residents in New Edinburgh and the surrounding communities, a public meeting organized by NECA took place on Wednesday, January 16, at Memorial Hall, where a capacity crowd of close to 180 was given a closer look at project plans, and had an opportunity to address their comments to Minto representatives.
As background to a review of the Minto proposal, NECA Board member Catherine Lindquist provided an overview of the City’s multi-layered Planning and Approvals Framework, within which the project is being developed, and in relation to which it should be assessed.
More details related to the framework and its application to Minto’s proposal are available on the City of Ottawa website at This link provides access all the available plans and assessments of the project prepared by Minto consultants, including Planning Rationale; Environmental Site Assessment, Site and Landscape Plan and Transportation Brief.
A four-page report of the January 16 public consultation hosted by NECA regarding Minto's Beechwood-MacKay redevelopment proposal has been sent to the City of Ottawa.
Although Monday, Feb. 4th is the official deadline for public comments to the City regarding the variances requested by Minto, the City has indicated that it will accept comments after that date.
Comments about the proposal can be directed to Ms. Bliss Edwards at the City of Ottawa, at, and copy Councillor Peter Clark at
The City has not (yet) scheduled a public consultation meeting regarding the application. If you would like to the City to hold an official public meeting, please make that request to Ms. Bliss Edwards, and copy Councillor Clark.
