CSST Public Open House re. truck routes
February 22, 2017 @ 5:30 pm - 7:30 pm
The City of Ottawa invites you to an Open House on the Combined Sewage Storage Tunnel (CSST), one of the most important projects of the Ottawa River Action Plan aimed at improving the health of the river. The CSST will include the construction of two tunnels: an east-west tunnel (EWT) through the downtown core from Stanley Park to LeBreton Flats, and a north-south tunnel (NST) along Kent Street from Catherine Street to existing infrastructure behind the Supreme Court. To complete this project, there will be several surface construction sites and continuous underground tunneling operations throughout the downtown core.
At the Open House, you will have the opportunity to:
- Provide input into the selection of truck routes through New Edinburgh
- Review background information on the CSST Project
- Learn about the expected noise levels during construction
- Review construction activities in Stanley Park
Representatives from the City and the consultant team will be available to provide the information and answer your questions.
WHY: The Public Open House will provide residents with the opportunity to review truck route options and ask questions in advance of CSST construction, anticipated to begin in New Edinburgh in March 2017.
WHERE: There are two construction sites in New Edinburgh: one at Queen Victoria/River Lane, and the main site in Stanley Park (which contains multiple locations within a single fenced area). Trucks will be servicing both sites during construction, with the exact routes to be determined in consultation with the community.
WHAT: Access shafts will be constructed in Stanley Park, to connect to existing infrastructure and to launch the tunneling operation for the East-West Tunnel, and at River Lane/Queen Victoria to connect to the Rideau River Collector.
WHEN: Construction is expected to begin in Stanley Park in March 2017, and continue for 30 months. Construction is also expected to begin in March 2017 at the River Lane/Queen Victoria location, and continue for 12 months at this location. Overall CSST construction will continue at various sites throughout the City until the end of 2019, with the CSST becoming operational mid-2020.
