So you want to get more involved in your community, but don't know where to start? Let's start by looking at the different community groups active in the Burgh: Community activism New Edinburgh Community Alliance (NECA) is involved in many areas of community life, from publishing the New Edinburgh News and dealing with heritage and development issues, to traffic calming and park and environmental stewardship. There are plenty of opportunities - large and small - to become more engaged in what makes our community such a great place to live. Come out to one of the monthly NECA Board meetings to get a feel for where you might fit in. Family and community events Crichton Community Council (CCC), usually known simply as Community Council, looks after sporting and social activities. This includes managing the Fieldhouse and co-ordinating use of the surrounding sports facilities with the City. Community Council also runs special neighbourhood events such as the annual Winter Carnival, Picnic, Race Weekend Cheering Station, and Garage Sale. Community programs - exercise, art and more The Crichton Cultural Community Centre, known as CCCC or 4C’s, is based in the old school building at 200 Crichton Street. The 4C's manage a program of cultural and recreational activities and also make workspace available for use by local visual and performing arts groups. Neighbourhood Watch Neighbourhood Watch provides a means of reducing the opportunity for crime to occur, through the active participation of citizens. Community members are taught how to make their homes less inviting for thieves, how to participate in Operation Identification, making their personal property less desirable to burglars, and how to be alert to suspicious activity in their neighbourhoods. The program also helps to co-ordinate the efforts of the police and the community in tracking down criminals. Strong individual, community, and police involvement is what makes the program such a success because—together we can prevent crime!
